The FDA has Released a New Searchable Site for Food Allergen Labeling Guidance

Head’s up! The FDA has made it easier to
find allergen labeling guidance.

If you still haven’t dug into edition 5 of the Guidance for Industry from January, here’s some welcome news: The FDA recently published a new, more user-friendly FAQ page and you can use it to help get answers.

Since the FDA updated the Food Allergen Guidelines earlier this year, your existing product labels may need an update to remain in compliance with requirements (read about the biggest changes here). But you do have time to bring your labels into compliance! The uniform compliance date is January 1, 2028.

Protecting your customers is the goal of labeling. Food-allergic people need to know if a product is suitable and safe for them. This revision of the fifth edition of this guidance document includes the questions and answers from the draft guidance document, Questions and Answers Regarding Food Allergens, Including the Food Allergen Labeling Requirements of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. You can read a short introduction and download the the final guidance document from the FDA website.

Do you have a quick question?

The FDA has put together a short list of FAQs that cover the most common questions on the topics of Compliance, Milk and Eggs, and Tree Nuts.

Are you looking for more specific information?

You can find Food Allergens/Gluten-Free Guidance Documents & Regulatory Information on the FDA website. This is a great place to find policies and regulations for all of the major allergens, with especial attention to gluten.
